THE PATH

Translated from the original Con Duong,

by N. Saomai

Down our way lets go then, darling

when below the mountain

the evening is filled

with rising icy chill.

And we a bee and ant

up the hill now trying,

and now no word whispering

the blue moon the word

of spiritual scenery.

Take the step, but slowly

by the row of trees

and shake not

lest the day falls.

Our shadows are now cast

over the pass down below

Any feeling of desolation, darling?

Lets lie down here to sleep

in this autumn forest

Lets awake the next morn to find

our bodies midst the shrouding mist

In the morn well desert it

the city, and forget it all

And alone, we direct our walks

through this path leading to nothingness.
