four poems by HOANG XUAN SON

translated by the author

                    Jar

new people

not a new job

old job like a pot of slaked lime

nobody uses its spreading stick

to perforate the statue’s eyes

with bulging side

Cry

consider that you are not crying

cry up baby, cry !

o’ complicated

life

Alcohol

it doesn’t look like sticks

why to break down

the whole bundle

Thoughts

wrest the iron head down

making the pop-corns

to be civilized
