A PAINTER'S CROSSING
On this abandoned highway, I follow
a man
Dressed in green and burdened by a heavy pack,
He sometimes looks back,
As if someone will come to take him away
As if by chance, a trail of dust from a distance,
Loud wheels to move forward the time,
To drown the sound of the crows
in the field
Releasing him from playing his part.
No one will come.
I stand in the heat staring at boot prints
in the sand,
The child once again, "father of the Man",
To wonder of a stillness the past often brings,
Hoping to one day find the truth to everything -
No one knows but him,
The man, the myth, the Suicidal King.
